Doubters Anonymous, part 1

Types of Doubt:
a) Intellectual
b) Experiential & Emotional
c) Philosophical

Today’s Doubt:
I doubt God’s existence.
I struggle with God not being more obvious (the hiddenness of God).

1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause.

Psalm 102:25
In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. [NLT]

2) The world shows evidence of design.

Romans 1:20
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. [NLT]

3) The world is “fine tuned” for life to exist.

Psalm 104:24
How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

4) People have a sense of morality.

Romans 2:14-15
Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. [NLT]

5) The witness of biblical history.

Psalm 13:1-4
Lord, how long will You forget me? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long will I store up anxious concerns within me, agony in my mind every day?
How long will my enemy dominate me? Consider me and answer, Lord my God.
Restore brightness to my eyes; otherwise, I will sleep in death. My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,” and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

Matthew 11:1-6
When Jesus had finished giving orders to His 12 disciples, He moved on from there to teach and preach in their towns. When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent a message by his disciples and asked Him, “Are You the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Jesus replied to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: 5 the blind see, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news. And if anyone is not offended because of Me, he is blessed.”

A healthy question:
Where exactly are my doubts coming from … and where are they taking me?

Psalm 13:5-6
But I have trusted in Your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in Your deliverance. I will sing to the Lord because He has treated me generously.

God has given enough evidence to warrant our attention … and take a reasonable step of faith toward Him.
